I'm still not familliar with the 360, though it seems like its the thing to get. I want to build my carputer straight up on my own, don't want those pre-built ones because it just doesn't seem challanging enough.

Well for one, no more cd's. You can play all your music through the carputer, you can also use it for entertainment for passangers. When travelling you can use map programs, gps and even use bluetooth for other things like cell phones and some mp3 players. I havent really looked into this but you can also tap into your cars engine chip and get lots of readings from it and you may even be able to make slight changes in performance. There is much more you can do as upgrades and new software become available, and computers have new updates and products every day so who knows what will be available tomorrow.

alpine can do no more cd's also... nav, bluetooth, voice controls...5.1 6.1 yada yada... then you can do it with a lap top, i just don't see it... explain the benefits of in car computer, besides a lap top that would be cheaper, portable, and more up to date?

plus you would need a bigger screen, widescreen format than a 10 to really do anything computing...

I don't see what you don't get. Alpine will only allow you to do so much, then you have to buy a new unit evertime something new comes out way to much $$$$. You can do all this with a laptop but how stock would that look, hello taxi driver with wires all over the place/police man.

A laptop wouldn't be as expandable as a regular pc. A laptop is easier to steal, of course, there are ways to prevent it like really bolting it down or removing it everytime you park. And a laptop is usually more expensive.

Can you think of any reasons not to have a computer in the vehicle? I pointed out quite a few things that most people don't have, a laptop can't provide and neither can the Alpine. I'm building a carputer for under $500 and thats with the touch screen monitor, and I had my laptop in the car and wow its complicating everything I try to do because the brightness on laptops arn't bright enough for in the car.

jbondox, do you not own a computer at home? If you do then you should know all the things that you can do with it in the car. Nothing else out there can come close to a carputer.
