O.k so I just finished building a box for a single 12" T1 sub, and I have it wired for 2 ohms and is hooked up to a P1000-1 amp. I'm listening to it and it sounds extremely quiet; I have to really turn up the system for it sound like my old P1's!!!!! The box is ported and is tuned around 35hz. I have a small air leak that I anticipated and plan to take care of, but I can't imagine THAT being a huge issue. Its got at least 500 RMS and the gains have been slightly turned up.(I don't necessarily like turning up the gains on my amp) Any suggestions?...It sounds kind of muffled.

Thanks for any Help

is the subwoofer level on the headunit turned down? or are both voice coils hooked up properly, or hooked up at all?

Yes, both voice coils are hooked up properly and are wired for 2 ohms and the sub level is adequetly adjusted at the head unit

hmm, is your hi-pass or low-pass filter on, and if they are on then is the crossover knob set correctly? is the bass boost turned up or down? is the 'loudness' feature on your head unit on if there is one?

maybe look at those things, if not, where did you get the amp? if at an authorized retailer or other local shop then go there and ask whats up.

if not let us know on here and maybe someone else can think something too.

Well everything in terms of filters are set correctly, however the amp does make a very high pitched "humming" noise, kinda like the ringing in your ears. Um, not sure if that could be an issue or if it's just an average noise to be hearing.

are both the rca's plugged in correctly? at the head unit and at the amp? hows the ground wires? seems like you should clean up and check the grounds.

I could probably clean up the grounds, but my P1s were fine before, and I'm using the same ground.

There was a post on here a while back where a sub wasn't playing very loud and the problem was that the terminals on one of the coils were marked incorrectly. You can check the polarity of your terminals by using a AA battery. Disconnect all of the wires from your sub. Attach a speaker wire to the "+" end of the battery and another one to the "-" end. Then connect the wire from the "-" from the battery and connect it to one of the negative terminals on your sub. Tap the wire from the "+" end of the battery to the positive coil terminal and the cone should move out. Disconnect the wire to the negative terminal. Then do this to the other coil. If the cone moves the same direction on both coils then this isn't the problem.

Check polarity and make sure they're fine. Second, what headunit do you have, what's the pre-out voltage supposed to be and where is your gain at on your amp? Possibility that your gain is too low. There should be a night and day difference between your subs...

Well, I've got a Kenwood KDC-MP638U head unit with 2.5volts pre-out. As for my gains, I currently have them set at around 3;no major difference. I've got the box facing up in my Jeep and I have sealed the leak.

3 out of what? I had a kenwood headunit taht was "2.5" volts out and was forced to turn my gain up to about 90% to match the voltage that the h/u was putting out.

I think that this may be a case of having the gain too low. Its either that or you're subs are out of phase, which would DESTROY your output.

3 out of 11

A couple of months back I tried to run a 10" T1 off of this amp, had the gains set to around 9 out of 11 and nearly blew it!

Do you have a different sub that you can hook up to your amp to possibly eliminate the sub as the problem, or maybe hook up your sub to a different amp? This way at least you can narrow down the troubleshooting to either the sub or amp. I think that the problem might be the sub since you ran a 10" T1 pretty hard.

Well, I got her breathing pretty good now; I relocated my ground, ran some new wire, and messed around with the gains for a bit and she's sounding very decent! Still quieter than I expected but I think that it's the fact that I tuned the box to 35hz and found out that 35 is too low for what I listen to the majority of the time.

Thanks for all the help, though, guys! I greatly appreciate the accurate input and the response time on my questions!
