My deck has been heating up thanks to my speakers. I just put in 4 new alpine speakers (100wrms) type r I believe. All 6x9's. My deck is still heating up so I tested the volts going through the speaker wires in the back of the deck and all connections to my speakers read 6v. is that right? Or should it be reading 12

6v would be about 10 watts. 12 volts is the voltage needed to run your head unit, not necessarily going to be the same measured from the speaker output.

Oh I see. I don't understand why this deck heats up then. Maybe I just have to buy another new one so I can hook it up to my new speakers cause I've tried everything else and my deck only stays cool when I don't have the speakers on

I would buy a 4 channel amp to run the highs instead of buying a new deck and running your highs off of that. Your mids would sound a lot better, your deck shouldn't get hot since you will not be using the internal amp and you shouldn't run into the same problem of a overheating deck. A P400-4 would be a good match for your speakers.

all of them read 6v, ac or dc?

i don't remember the exact way but other then continuity to ground to test but 6v dc might be the wire shorting out... I would run new wires to all the speakers one of the wires is pinched or shorting out somewhere down the line

I don't know if it could be the wires though because they all read the same output, what're the chances all the wires are shorted?

And the problem with getting another amp would be more expensive plus the amp I have doesn't have an output spot on it so I would have to wire the new amp separate the to deck right? And idk how to put in two amps

if i was going to buy an ap, i think i would go for Alpine MRP-F300 to math everything else, and i really dont care the rms going to my speakers, and if i wanted to get a deck, does anyone think getting a 4v deck would solve the problem, givin my problem turns out to be just the deck and not the speaker wires

NEVERMIND guys i think i need a new deck. i believe the internal amp is fried. this morning i disconnected all wires except for power, ground and remote from the deck. i took off my door pannel and connected new speaker wire to one speaker and ran it to the correspondin wire on the deck, so with one speaker running the deck heated up pretty good in about 5 mins. so i know its going to heat up but it shouldnt be that bad that fast, with only one speaker.. so i hooked everything back up and the deck shut off everytime i turned the volume up to about 20.. so i restarted my car, then turned on a setting on my deck called POWER IC, it lets me turn off power to the speakers so only subs make noise, i did this and turned up the volume to aabout 23 and everything ran fine, the deck didnt heat up either. so to me the only thing this says is the internal amp SUCKS. thanks for the help guys, i also need some help with installing my front door speakers, my windows cant roll down all the way, my speakers go in too far haha so.. how can i fit them in? thanks for all the help guys. gotta buy another new deck

You can use a spacers to reduce the depth of your speakers. Its just a ring that goes between your speaker and your door. Make sure you can still get your door panel back on.

hey arron do that test one more time but don't use the wires in the car. run a speaker wire to the speaker on the seat or just touch them to the speaker directly

see what happens

What I did was unhooked all speaker wire from the back except for my front right speaker then pulled the speaker out of the door, and took wire I just bought connected it to the wire on the deck then to the speaker and it still heated up. Now after reinstalling everything the way it was, the deck can't power speakers, it just shuts off when the music hits bass. It only stays on when I don't have power to the speakers

It's all good now. The back left speaker was shorting somewhere along the line so I just bought new wire and rewired all the speakers. Everything runs like a champ :)
