Amsoil Chaparral Honda Team Continues To Dominate

19 years, 1 month ago Tempe, AZ

March 11, 2005 - The Daytona SX is one of the most anticipated and challenging races of the season. It is said that this race separates the boys from the men. The AMSOIL Chaparral Honda Team dominated the track, walking away with a podium finish in each class. Josh Grant takes home his first ever podium finish as a professional. Kevin Windham continued to expand on his point total for the 250cc THQ AMA Supercross Championship Title. Windham looked really good in the qualifiers, had a great start out of the gates and ended up shooting through to the main event with a 2nd place finish. During the main event Kevin headed out of the gates in 6th place. He rode solid and consistently throughout the race gaining a position up to 5th place and finished with that spot. Windham remains 3rd place in the 250cc AMA THQ Supercross Point Standings. Mike LaRocco proved his hard work, dedication, confidence and ability to ride at Daytona International raceway last Friday. Going into the qualifying round, LaRocco had a great start and headed straight to the main event with a 2nd place finish. During the main event he came out of the gates with a great start in 3rd place. La Rocco rode hard and consistent making minimal mistakes, which kept him in that 3rd place ranking throughout the entire race. He crossed the finish line and walked away with a well deserved 3rd place finish. Maintaining his 250cc THQ AMA Supercross Point Standings, Mike holds onto 4th place. Riding for the 125cc class, Joaquim Rodrigues put in his day of work and rode hard this weekend at Daytona. Joaquim's heat race looked great; he came out of the gates with a good start and qualified for the main event with a 4th place finish. Going into the main event he had a bad start coming out of the gates in 9th place. Joaquim worked hard and quickly made his way up the pack to find him self in 8th place by the eleventh lap. He held onto that 8th place position, locked it down and made his way through the finish line. Joaquim continues to hold onto 8th place in the 125cc East Coast THQ AMA Supercross Point Standings. As his rookie season in Supercross, it looks like the confidence Josh Grant was looking for has landed on his plate. Josh didn't have that great of a start in the qualifiers; he came out of the gates in 12th place but gradually worked his way up the pack. During the last lap of the qualifiers, Josh passed up two riders and headed into the main event in 8th place. The main event looked great for Grant. He came out of the gates in 1st place and took the Butterfinger hole shot award. For a majority of the race Grant was in the lead and was trying to hold off Josh Hansen, who was shortly behind him. During the last lap, Hansen tried making a pass on Grant and caused a collision which knocked both riders off their bikes. Luckily their bikes did not stall and both were able to get back on track; Hansen got on his bike just a little bit faster than Grant and obtained the leading position. Grant flew through the finish line taking home his first ever podium finish in 2nd place. Josh bumps up his current 125cc East Coast THQ AMA Supercross Point Standings to 6th place.
